The Jaguar Hockey Club was founded in 1979. Club hockey replaced the “Joliet Pioneers” which was run by the Joliet Park District. The Jaguars played in the Greater Chicago Minor Hockey Association in the early 80’s then moved to the North Suburban Hockey League in the mid-80’s. In 1989/90, the Jaguars joined the Northern Illinois Hockey League. On August 16, 1991, one day before fall registration, the Inwood Ice Arena burned to the ground.
In the two years it took to build the new rink, 35 families stayed together to form a Mite A2 team, a Mite AA team, and a Squirt AA team. The teams drove to Franklin Park, Park Ridge, and the Southwest Ice Arena in the early morning hours on weekends for practice and then played all away regular season games.
On April 3rd, 1993, the Inwood Ice Arena reopened its doors to the Jaguars who fielded a team at every level plus a house league. In March 1994, at the end of the first year of playing in the new rink, the Midget team brought home the Jaguars’ 1st flag of the new era. The Jaguars have won numerous flags since then.
